Wheat Harvest 2008
In Fall of 2008 we harvested ScytheSupply's wheat crop right here in Perry, Maine.
The wheat is being mown using a simple grain cradle. You can clearly see how the cradle gathers the stalks as they are cut carrying them to the left edge of the swath. When the stroke ends the stalks fall off the cradle with all the heads lying in one direction for easy gathering. The windrow of grain can be raked into small piles to be bound together for stacking then carried back to where the threshing will be done. You will find instructions for building your own cradle here.
