Catching up with the tool collector

Scythe Supply was one of many vendors at this week's Maine Agricultural Trades Show in Augusta. And Howard Hardy of the Oakland (ME) Area Historical Society brightened our booth with his scythe and ax stories on Wednesday.

In the summer 2014 issue of Memories of Maine Hardy talks about Maine's ax making history. Peter Vogt is mentioned as well. He made the ax making video we previously posted here on the Scythe Blog. The article includes a photo of 5 ax heads lined up, showing 5 stages of the ax making process. The ax heads came from Vogt's collection, and are now under the historical society's care.
